Since 1976 I have been involved with machine components, starting with motors, gearboxes and mechanical variable speed. Most recently, the whole Industry 4.0 and the related products and technology have dominated my efforts. Thru the years I have worked with manufactures from all over the world applying their products on to every type of imaginable machine and process.
In 1982 I founded Benchmark - Waltz Drives as an independent manufactures representative. I was 30 years old and people thought I was nuts! But sometime before that I had attended a national sales meeting of a major technology leader of the time I had the good fortune to be involved with and I saw a room full of consummate professionals; I was hooked and wanted into that club. These individuals typically had been with manufactures in related fields and had years experience in managing sales forces from Regional to International. Some got tired of travel, others just wanted to run their only shop.
The point here is the talent, experience and contacts reside in the Independent Sales Channels. It not for everyone, High Risk/High Reward. However, like everything in life, there are good ones and bad ones and its not always easy to tell. That is where Benchmark Vision comes in. For 38 years I had my own agency developing the skill sets to succeed thru good mentors, hard work and yes, a whole lot of luck. Sure I had successes, if not I would not be here writing this. Yet, the greatest lessons I can offer to potential future clients are my failures and the lessons gained, that is where the real value is!
In future blogs I will detail who our target manufactures are who would most benefit from my experience and national contacts of fellow agents. I will detail what the sales channel looks like and break it down for better understanding. Until then, take care, stay safe and wear a mask!
